Immigration and American Competitiveness
Is there a connection between a country’s immigrant population and its entrpreneurial success? According to this recent study by the National Venture Capital Association, the answer is a resounding “Yes!”
And why would anyone be tempted to think otherwise? Innovation, entrepreneurship and emigration are all inherently risky propositions. That those who are willing to pick up and move to a completely foreign (in every sense of the word) place to try and build a life for themselves might have traits required for entrpreneurial success should come as a surprise to no one. Nor should the fact that power laws apply to immigration as well, leading to a large number of unskilled workers entrpreneurially improving their lot by crossing the border relative to the number of highly skilled professionals doing the same.
Read the report. The impact of immigrant entrpreneurs and professionals on U.S. Competitiveness will change your idea about what it means to be “American Made.”
