Nature and Impact of Change

Creativity – It isn’t just enough to be innovative, we also have to be creative in developing new products and services that enhance people’s lives.

  • Look for ways to use technological changes to enhance the urban core and to benefit minority communities, e.g., utilize our technological expertise and institutional partnerships to develop new, low-cost healthcare solutions that address existing healthcare disparities within our community (and that can form the basis for new businesses based here)
  • Focus on attracting and building “sustainable” industries in the region: alternative energy, green building materials, etc.
  • Encourage and support new forms of insurance and healthcare provision outside of the traditional “office visit” environment.
  • Take advantage of projects like OneCleveland to enhance disadvantaged neighborhood access to online government, health, and educational services
  • Increase private sector awareness and access to materials research at area universities that will enable product innovations.
  • Connect the region’s ICE experience with researchers in advanced materials and nanotechnology which will enhance the capabilities of “customizable” manufacturing
  • Foster greater connections between the region’s leading design institutions such as the Cleveland Institute of Art and device/equipment manufacturers in the region to develop more distinct products that can – like the iPod – stave off lower priced competition
